Shawnee Heights Students Get Firsthand Look at WWII

Students at Shawnee Heights Elementary School got a first-hand look at World War II artifacts Friday.

The school invited speakers representing Germany, Italy, Russia, Great Britain and the United States to share their knowledge with the students. The speakers dressed in period costumes and showed off artifacts like weapons, helmets and patches.

Fourth grade teacher Joe Taylor says it's a way for students to experience the era hands-on. He says the students do things like see what it's like to carry a heavy backpack for a whole day.
